Baillie and Rothes wind farms approved
The Scottish Government has approved two new wind farm projects capable of generating about 150MW – enough for around 45,000 homes – in Rothes and Baillie. The existing Rothes wind farm has had its planned expansion approved, more than doubling its current output. The new £80m Bailie wind farm will be able to supply power to around 25,000 homes and will feed electricity back to the grid via the newly approved Beauly-Denny power transmission line. Around 90 jobs in construction are expected to be created from both projects.
Energy Minister Jim Mather said: “These schemes are good for Scotland’s low-carbon economy and further examples of the action we need to take now to tackle climate change…. We are already on-track to surpass our target of meeting 31% of electricity demand from renewables by 2011, and a whole range of renewable technologies will play their part in achieving our target of 50% by 2020.”
Another positive step towards 50% by 2020, then.

We have a vision that Scotland can be a global pioneer in the Cleantech and Renewable Energy industry.
A key way to support this is to build a community, a hub, where those with common interests and expertise can collaborate freely. Cleantech Scotland will be this hub.
